Getting On

Riding the Trolley is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Stand At a Stop: Trolleys can only pick up & drop off at designated stops with Maroon “M-LINE” signs. Click here for a map of stops.
  2. Flag Us Down: As the trolley approaches, wave so the driver knows you want to ride. Trolleys may pass riders looking at a phone.
  3. Stay Safe: If tracks are in the middle of the street, wait on the curb.  The operator will stop traffic for you to board.

Name Your Fare

We provide “Free” service by asking riders to name their price:

Request a Stop

Each car has a bell, or overhead string, which rings a bell, to notify the Motorman or Motorwoman to stop at the next designated stop.

  1. Locate either the bells or strings, usually above the seats,
  2. Make sure you hear the bell ring,
  3. The Motorman will drop you off at the next designated M-LINE stop.

Accessibility Information

The age and varying design of our historic cars can create accessibility challenges for some riders:

We invite anyone with accessibility concerns, including invisible disabilities, to contact us before riding.

Bikes, Scooters & Pets

Bikes & Strollers: We allow bikes and smaller strollers to ride, as long as there is room and a clear path to and from exits for passengers. Large strollers are discouraged as they may not fit in some of our cars.

Scooters: Electric scooters are not permitted on trolleys.

Pets: Service animals and well-behaved pets may ride the M-LINE if they are leashed or remain in their carriers. Pets may not take a seat from other riders.

NOTE: If your pet causes a disturbance to the comfort or safety of other passengers, the Motorman may ask you to exit at the nearest stop.

If you See Something, Say Something to your Motorman

Pedestrians & Cyclists

  • Trolleys cannot stop quickly, look both ways before crossing the tracks or the street.
  • Stay alert – don’t let your headphones/earplugs or texting keep you from hearing trolley horns, whistles, or bells.
  • Pedestrians should step over, not on the tracks.
  • Bikes, scooters, skateboards, wheelchairs and strollers should cross at a 90-degree angle to avoid getting stuck in the rail.
  • Hold onto your child when trolley is approaching the stop and keep them safe while riding the trolley.

Vehicles

  • Trolleys always have the right of way on the tracks so look both ways and wait for it to pass before crossing.
  • To prevent having your vehicle towed, do not park on the tracks and block the trolley – this applies to ALL vehicles, including delivery & pick up vehicles.
  • Do not pull in front of the trolley and make a sudden stop. Trolleys cannot stop quickly.
  • Pay attention to trolley signs posted near stoplights and stops; please stay clear of trolley turns per sign postings.
